Modular Outsoles for Overstock Shoes
The footwear industry faces major issues with overproduction, often making 40% more shoes than sold due to poor forecasting and fast fashion cycles. This leads to financial losses and environmental harm from unused stock. This project explores how supply chains contribute to overstock and proposes a solution: a modular outsole system. By designing interchangeable soles for different conditions (e.g., walking, rain, outdoors), unsold shoes can be repurposed instead of discarded. This approach extends product lifespan, reduces waste, and limits the need for multiple pairs, offering a more adaptable and sustainable alternative to traditional footwear consumption.
