OKAMURAE
OKAMURAE is an environmental and economic proposal that addresses the problem caused by the invasive Asian algae Rugulopteryx okamurae in the Mediterranean Sea. This species has been progressively and uncontrollably invading our coasts. A social, cultural, ecological, and economic problem that is directly affecting biodiversity, tourism, and the fishing sector.
This initiative proposes to convert the algae into a useful biomaterial through its collection and study, focusing the problem on the town of Colera, Alt Empordà, and promoting sustainability, water cleaning, and the restoration of affected marine ecosystems.
